Remote Staff in Caribbean Countries

Why hiring Remote staff beats offshore companies

Here’s the reality about offshore companies like call centers, outsourcing firms, virtual assistant providers, and RPOs  and how they compare to hiring directly from a lower-cost country through a human resources partner company.

To keep this simple, imagine you are working for an offshore company. Maybe your role is as a call center agent, virtual assistant, or recruiter. You are officially employed by that offshore company, which pays you extremely low wages, sometimes assigns you to two different U.S. companies at the same time without their knowledge, and offers very little job stability.

Your position might last anywhere from six months to two years, pushing you to move from one offshore employer to another. In this kind of environment, it’s difficult to feel happy, motivated, or loyal to any U.S. company you’re assigned to.

This situation explains why employees placed by offshore companies often show little care or commitment and why many American businesses eventually cancel these arrangements when they realize the disadvantages outweigh the cost savings.

Now, picture a different approach. Let’s say I’m an executive with a U.S.-based company, and I interview and choose to hire you. You live in a country with a lower cost of living, like the Dominican Republic, and I bring you onboard through a human resources partner with operations in both the U.S. and the DR.

On paper, you’re a contractor with the HR company, but in practice, you’re working for my company as if you were a long-term career employee. We collaborate directly via Zoom or Teams, and I can help map out a career path for you.

Although my cost to hire you is still far less than hiring a U.S.-based employee, I’m giving you a fair, stable, and long-term career opportunity with my company. Naturally, this creates motivation, enthusiasm, and loyalty.

These two examples show exactly why we built our USA/Dominican Republic HR partner program to help U.S. businesses hire top talent in the Dominican Republic as nearshore, lower-cost staff.

I don’t use the word “employees” because, technically, they are contractors but they work for you just like long-term team members.

Those workers understand that U.S. companies see them as temporary or replaceable not as long-term, valued employees.

It’s easy to see why workers assigned through offshore companies are often disengaged and lack commitment.

The people know the American companies perceive them as extra and expendable. Not as long term career employees.

It just makes common sense to hire people to work for your company directly as nearshore lower cost staff and do this through an HR partner as this does create the commitment, loyalty, hard work and longevity same as a normal employee yet without the USA employee overhead costs or legal risks.
